President, Language and Literacy Education Graduate Student Organization
Conference Co-chair, Journal of Language and Literacy Education Annual Winter Conference
About My Leadership
During the 2020-2021 school year, I took on the position of conference co-chair and hosted an annual winter conference for Journal of Language and Literacy Education (JoLLE). In specific, I arranged a collection of thought-provoking presentations at the forefront of the scholarship that positions justice and humanity at the center in language and literacy education. I am proud that the JoLLE 2021 Winter Conference created a space and opportunities for building a community among teacher educators to learn, communicate, and engage in scholarly dialogues surrounding teaching and learning. During the one-week long conference events, I was glad to see that presenters and attendees had meaningful interactions and established deep connections in effective and sustaining ways.

During the 2021-2022 school year, I led the LLED graduate student organization (LLEGO) as President. During my term of service, I hosted a number of events that oriented from social, academic, teaching perspectives of graduate lives. These include LLED graduate student coffee hours, creating writing support groups, cultivating effective teaching strategies as graduate instructors, workshops on preparing for conference and academic publications etc. One of the highlights among the many was the Spring Book Talk Series, in which I invited nationally well-known scholars to give talks on their newly published books. There were more than 350 registrations for the four book talks I hosted in Spring 2022. In sum, my mission of taking on leadership positions is to create a more inclusive environment and foster discussions of race, power, and educational equity within and beyond my current doctoral program
